2.1.The Challenges for
Translation Profession
According to Mr. WiyantoSuroso and Mrs.
Mutiara (workshop presenters) the challenge for translation profession is the
choosing of language which can be accepted by the readers. So, a translator has
to enrich themselves with several of scientific knowledge and vocabulary
riches. It is not only can be gotten from reading but also from writing so that
sequence of words is still accurate and not ambiguous. To be a translator is not
easy, and needs many requirements. For example, apart from understanding Source
Language (SL), also have to understand the language will be used in translating
(Target Language/TL) (Ahira, 2011). So, the purpose of a translator is
transferring a massage from one language to another thoroughly.
In the other hand, according to Mr. Mutiara
there are two professions of translators who have the challenges each
themselves. The first, freelance translator is the translators working
independently or individually, they usually promote on website or social media.
Bid for tariff themselves that is adjusted whether the document is easy to
translate or not as well as free-time of work. But if they want to get many clients
and wages so they have to be discipline and serious in translating.
The last, fulltime translator is a
translator who works at formal language institution. They have special online
schedule that has been agreed and do not be late in filling attendance taking if
they don’t want to be dismissed. So, they must understand discipline,
seriousness, and confidence. So, there are three of “Three Angle Challenges”.
2.5.1 Time Challenge
Either freelance or fulltime translator,
certainly must be ready to immolate their time, because the translators must
use their time efficiently in translating documents who are given by clients.
Especially for freelance translator who their sleep times is decreased.
2.5.2 Tariff Challenge
There isn’t a legal tariff causes many people
who bid for tariff with arbitrary. But Indonesia University (UI) had published
regulation as referral tariff for several category and language that are translated.
For example, for translation English into Bahasa Indonesia is Rp 45.000 and
Bahasa Indonesia into English is Rp. 75.000. For religion and law topic are
higher, because it is very difficult and needs more time to be translated.
Translation tariff in English is more different, especially for sworn
translator and from formal institution.
2.5.3 Grade Challenge
Mr. Wiyanto said that the grade of translation is very
important, because with the good grade, the reader will be able to read our
translation result well so that they will not interpret it again.
